For their inaugural live performance, Yes Man Jr. set off to Classic City - the land of REM, Drive-By Truckers, IPAs and overpriced hamburgers.
The band received a warm welcome as the openers for the Lemonaid Bash benefit concert. Lemonaid is a student-led mutual aid group for feeding the homeless.
The venue was located in a quaint and charming neighborhood just outside of downtown Athens. Bands performed on the front porch of a house inhabited by several UGA students.
Songs were sung, grainy photos were taken. Beer and pizza were consumed in not-so-insignificant quantities. The hosts were friendly and hospitable, and provided a magnificent space to play, including (much to our surprise) a top of the line PA system! The artists performed wonderfully, so much so that a few neighbors even joined the party and danced along.
As for Yes Man Jr, they were thrilled to finally debut their material before a live audience. Playing songs off their first record, a few cuts which would end up on the next one, and their hit single™ Mucho Mungo,
the band was received positively and performed well (..we think. No footage exists of this performance, regrettably).
Alas, this night of merriment was short-lived. Though some of the neighbors were supportive, others were not so much and called in noise complaints. The show
was put to a premature end upon threats of law enforcement intervention. Headlining act Summer Sick were unable to play their set.
Summer Sick - we dedicate the memory of this show to you, and wish you nothing but the best in your endeavors.
